Lake Ainsworth Lennox Head
Lake Ainsworth was named after James Ainsworth, Thomas Ainsworth's son. The Ainsworth's were one of the first European families to take up land in the region, settling on the North Head of Ballina in 1847.
The Lake is situated north of the town and 50 metres behind the dunes. The lake is a fresh water lagoon that is permanently discouloured by ti-trea (tea-tree) tanins leaching from the treas that surround the lake. There are some good BBQs and plenty of picnic tables (wood is usually readily available so there is no need to go ripping branches off trees). The ti-trea water is said to have health giving and rejuvenating properties.
